P

eter “Pete” Joseph DeMarzo, 88, a 15-year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Arnold, MD, died on May 28, 2010 at his home after his 1-year courageous battle with cancer. Born May 29, 1921 in New York City, NY, Pete graduated from Murray Hill High School. He served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant, Company L, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Combat Infantry Badge Bronze Star. Pete was employed as a pressman for the Department of Defense in Fort Meade, MD, during which time he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He received the NSA Superior Management Award and the Federal Career Service Award after 32 years of federal service. Pete was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton, MD, Annapolis Elks Lodge 622, American Legion in Greenbelt and Annapolis, Greenbelt Lions Club and the Sons of Italy. He enjoyed working on cars, surfing on the internet and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Clara DeMarzo; his children, Robert (Carol) DeMarzo of Sykesville, MD and Mary (Warren) Funk of Crofton, MD; his sisters, Angelina Alberti and Josephine Baritelli, both of New York City, NY; his grandchildren, Christopher Green of Wye Mills, MD, Carrie Lhotsky of Middle River, MD and Peter DeMarzo of Ellicott City, MD; his great-grandchildren, Peter and Anna Green of Wye Mills, MD and Dakota Lhotsky of Middle River, MD. He is predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. Friends are invited to Pete's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 3 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 2 at 10am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive, Crofton, MD 21114. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
