eter Smoot “Gumps” Nibley, 61, a 30-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Bethesda, MD, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood.
Born on July 27, 1956, in Panama City, FL to the late Owen and Elizabeth Nibley, Peter graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and attended Montgomery College and American University. A self- employed building contractor, Peter operated Metropolitan Home Crafters Inc., for more than 30 years, and more recently he owned and operated Nibs Handyman Services.
Peter was a proud member of Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, volunteering as a troop dad and chaperone for scouts in Anne Arundel County. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay. A lifelong Redskins fan, he also followed LSU football and Women’s Lacrosse.
Peter is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Beth Nibley; his daughter Suzanne Nibley also of Edgewater and two brothers, Andy and Stuart Nibley.
Friends are invited to a memorial service for Peter at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 27 at Christ Church, 3116 O Street, NW, Washington, DC. Burial will be private.
