Philip Brannan - Obituary

P

hilip “Phil” Edmund Brannan, 84, of Severna Park, MD, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born in Washington, D.C., to the late Charles and Anna Brannan, Phil grew up in Mt. Rainier, MD, and graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD. He served in the US Navy Reserve, and joined IBEW Local 26 upon completion of his service. He loved being an electrician, and especially loved working on the many “power houses” that he helped build over his career. He semi-retired from field work and finished his career with Marriott Hotels. He was active in HMB Boys and Girls Club for many years, serving as Treasurer and President, and running the carnivals. Phil enjoyed spending time at his family home in Cove Point Beach and loved fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He was an active member in his parish, both at St. Mark’s in Hyattsville, and St. Ann’s in Ocean View, DE. He was an avid Redskins fan; he and his late wife Carol had season tickets for many years and attended every Super Bowl with the Skins. Phil and Carol retired to Ocean View, DE, where he loved feeding his birds, growing his tomatoes, “fiddling” in his garage, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Anyone that ever met him knew that he always had a firm handshake, a smile on his face, and a loud contagious laugh. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol (Spiker), and his brother Christopher. He is survived by his three children, Phyllis Keehn (Sean), Sharon Bussink (Jimmy, dec.), and Daniel (Jocelyn); his grandchildren, Meghan Keehn, Ryan Keehn (Clara), Zachary Brannan, and Joshua Brannan; and his great-grandson James Patrick Keehn. He is also survived by his brothers Charles (Joan, dec.), Francis (Louella), John (Anita, dec), and his sisters Melissa Gibson (Hank Poniatowski, dec) and Mary Carrie Forrest (Jim), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Due to COVID concerns and limitations, a private service will be held with his immediate family only at this time. A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at a later date, when all can gather. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org/donate), or to Household of Angels Assisted Living (please email pdkeehn@live.com for details).
