Phyllis Jean Luken - Obituary

B

eloved Mother and Grandmother, Phyllis Jean Luken (nee Myers), passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024 following a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. Phyllis was a bright light in the world, and a beautiful person inside and out. A military spouse who chose to stay home with her small band of school-aged children, she invested her time and energy into being a loving mother, super involved volunteer for school activities, church music ministry, and Girl Scout leader. She was an enthusiastic attendee for childrens’ sports, gymnastics, and dance activities, Phyllis then worked for Prince George’s County Schools for over 20 years at Oxon Hill High School, Green Valley Elementary School, and Fort Washington Forest Elementary School. Her smile, her kind and generous nature, her hand-written notes, and the way she made each person she met feel special were her most glorious gifts. Her memory will continue to bring joy and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her, and she will be deeply missed. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Paul Edward, as well as her son, Paul Christopher. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Kevin) Aanestad, son, Todd (Jennifer) Luken, and daughter Amy (Alfred) Iannaccone, sister Sallie Carter, brother Bill Myers, grandchildren Paul (Amanda), Nathan, Aaron, Ava, Lillian, and Emma, as well as her first great-grandchild, Mason. Relatives and friends are invited to express their condolences to the family on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
