R

. Lee Jeter of Oxon Hill, MD passed away on December 31, 2021 at age 60 after a brief illness. Lee was born in Hyattsville, MD to parents Robert L. Jeter and Ella Hutchins Jeter. He grew up in Hillcrest Heights and Oxon Hill, MD, where he attended Potomac and Oxon Hill High Schools, followed by a brief stint at Prince George’s Community College. As a young man, Lee went to work for the US Department of State, where he remained for his entire career. After starting out in the mail room, Lee worked his way up to the IT department where he held several positions over the years. He continued to learn new skills and systems throughout his career and earned numerous awards and accolades for his leadership and ethics. Lee married Thelma Ziganay in 1989. They were blessed with three children, Michael, Jonathan, and Emily who were a continual source of love and joy for Lee. His family was always a priority. Church was also a central pillar of Lee’s life. An active member of Oxon Hill Baptist Church, Lee served as Deacon and Trustee, a worship leader and treasurer. Lee was always an avid reader and a life-long learner with a wide array of interests including genealogy, alternative medicine, politics, religion and music. He loved to sing and sang with many choirs over the years. He took great pleasure in attending his children’s piano recitals, particularly as they grew older and the music grew more complex and mature. He enjoyed fishing and visiting his beloved Outer Banks with the family. Lee is survived by his wife Thelma, their children, Michael, Jonathan and Emily; sister Alice Hough and brother-in-law Bill; brother Albert Jeter, sister-in-law Paula, and their son Randy; and sister-in-law Janiele Ziganay.
