Raffaela Albergo, age 96, a resident of Edgewater for more than 62 years, died on Wednesday, January 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of natural causes. Born on July 27, 1916 in Bari, Italy, Raffaela was a homemaker most of her life. As a young lady, she worked at Woodward & Lothrop Department Store on F Street in Washington, D.C. Raffaela was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Edgewater where she served as the organist for many years. She also played at other local churches as a substitute and performed at many local weddings and other special events. She loved to knit, crochet and bake lots of cookies. Raffaela was preceded in death by her husband, Franco Albergo in 1994. They were married in 1947. She is survived by a son, George M. Albergo of Edgewater; a daughter, Lucia A. Kimball of Bradford, MA, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to Raffaela’s Life Celebration on Saturday, January 26 from 3:00 PM until her funeral service begins at 4:00 PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Edgewater, 38 W. Central Ave., Edgewater, MD 21037.
