Raul Humberto Martin - Obituary

aul Humberto Martin, 71, passed away on August 5, 2022, at his home in Edgewater, Maryland surrounded by his wife and children. He fought a long and extremely hard battle with prostate cancer over the last 5 years. He was born on December 25, 1950, in San German, Puerto Rico. Raul graduated from Academia San Jorge Catholic School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in Biology. He retired after thirty-three years from the trucking industry as a driver for ABF Freight Company. Growing up, Raul enjoyed surfing, playing baseball, and beach volleyball. As an adult, he loved working around the farm (Loftmar Stables in Bowie, MD) and the horses, boating, fishing, carpentry, and being “Mr. Fix It”. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family! Raul was one of five children born to the late Raul Humberto Martin Acosta and Evangelina Quinones Velez. Raul is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet Loftus Martin, his son, David Laurence Martin, his three daughters Jenifer Martin Brian, Kasey Elizabeth Martin, and Christina Marie O’Connell, his brother Humberto Martin, and three sisters Maria Martin, Ana Martin, Isabel Martin, and his nine grandchildren Jacob Martin, Brayden Martin, Avery Martin, Rylee Martin, Blake Sherlock, Emersyn Martin, Channing O’Connell, Mia O’Connell, and Sofia Brian. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church , 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD. After the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Raul and Jan’s home. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
