ev. Dr. Theodore August Tietge (Age 77) was born June 30, 1932 and died of multiple myeloma July 30, 2009 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Chesapeake. Originally from East Baltimore, he has been a resident of Annapolis for 35 years. He is the first generation born here, being the son of Paula Stolting Tietge of Kiel, Germany and Theodore Tietge of Bad Saltzdetfurth, Germany. He attended Baltimore Polytechnic High School, graduating from the “A†course, Albright College in Reading, PA, Union Theological Seminary in New York and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Seminary in Washington. His home church was Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Baltimore. He served a Methodist Church in Flushing, NY as an assistant while in seminary and also as a pastor at Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church in Brooklyn, NY for two years. Returning to Maryland after seminary, he served Salem Methodist Church in Upper Falls, Grace United Methodist in Aberdeen and Calvary United Methodist in Annapolis until his stroke in 1978, retiring on disability at 46. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Phillips Tietge, his daughter Carrie and husband- Steve Porco, and daughter Paula and husband Denver Sanner, grandsons Theodore Sanner (wife-Laura), Steven Porco, Michael Porco and Jake Sanner and one brother William Tietge.
A memorial service is planned for August 4th, Tuesday, at 2pm at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd, Annapolis, MD.
