Rev. James Bernard Muller, OP - Obituary

r. James Muller, of the Order of Preachers, died on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, MD, at the age of 85. He was born in Camden, NJ, on March 12, 1932, the son of George William and Marie Elizabeth (Davis). He graduated from Providence College in 1954, and from the Dominican House of Studies in 1957, and was ordained a Dominican priest in Washington, DC, in 1959. Father Muller served as a preacher for the Mission Band of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph, and as a parish priest for the Province in New York City, Youngstown, Ohio, Louisville, Kentucky, and Hawthorne, NY. From 2002-2008, he served as Prior of St. Dominic’s community in Washington, DC, and from 1980-1990, he served in the Chaplain Corps of the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve. In addition to his Dominican community, Fr. Muller is survived by a sister, Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. Richard) Smith, and several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be in St. Dominic’s Church, 6th and E Streets SW on Monday, August 28, from 4 to 7 PM, and the funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 29, with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
