T

he Reverend John (Jack) Bevan Wheeler died on July 15, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born on December 5, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to Clarence E. and Carolyn B. Wheeler (both deceased). He served for 67 years as an Episcopal priest, primarily in the diocese of MD, with a brief time spent in the diocese of TX. Jack also worked as a teacher for the Anne Arundel public school system for 30 years. Jack grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Catonsville High School. Following that, he graduated from Washington and Lee University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He then attended The General Seminary and was ordained a priest on July 13, 1957. He also received his MA from George Washington University. On October 5, 1957 he married Helen Chase Ward. Together they had nearly 67 years of love and good times. His son, Benjamin (Ben) predeceased him. His daughter, Kathrin (Kate) lives in FL with her husband Rick. Jack leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Caitlin Given, Cheyenne Click, Eden Frank, Cody Whiteman, Tanner Whiteman and Darian Smith, as well as 4 great grandchildren. Jack was a peaceful, quiet man who gently touched the lives of many, both young and old. Through his guidance as a teacher for the very young and as an Episcopal priest, countless lives are better for having known Jack. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held for Jack on September 2, 2024 @ 11:00 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1101 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD.
