ichard Lewis Gorman, a 29-year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Silver Spring, MD died on July 17, 2015 of a heart attack. He was 93. Born May 28, 1922 in Detroit, MI to the late William and Sophie (Hull) Gorman, Richard graduated from the University of Maryland in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Military Science. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942, in answering his call of duty to his country. He was a pilot in Italy during WWII, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal w/90LC, WWII Victory Medal, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and National Defense Service award. Richard served 25 years in the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Lt. Col. In 1968. Following his retirement from the military, he began his second career with the General Accounting Office and worked until his retirement in 1986. For 46 years, Richard was a member of the Elks and served as the Exulted Ruler of the Rockville Lodge. He enjoyed surf fishing, traveling to national parks, being outdoors and playing golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Lee Gorman, whom he married on November 14, 1942 and who died on January 13, 1980; one daughter, Karen L. Donaldson; and a brother, Roy Gorman. Richard is survived by his second wife, Kay Lee Gorman, whom he married on April 19, 1986; two sons and their spouses, Richard A. & Bridget Gorman of Houston, TX and Michael L. & Donna Gorman of Annapolis, MD; a sister, Margaret Gorman of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, Thomas A. Gorman of Salisbury, MD, Chad M. Gorman of Wilson, NC, Kevin M. Gorman of Annapolis, MD, Bridget Gorman of Houston, TX, Kelli Zammiello of Houston, TX and Karen Gorman of Oakland, CA; and six great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 6 to 8pm.
