ichard John Gosheff, 84, a 62-year resident of Gambrills, died May 6 at his home following a 4-month battle with cancer. He was born January 19, 1927 in Youngstown, OH to the late Slavko and Hilda Beck Gosheff. He attended Chaney High School in Youngstown before moving to Maryland where he graduated from Annapolis High School in 1945.
Richard served in World War II in the Army Transportation Corps as a boatswains on troop transport ships in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he worked as a farmer in partnership with his brother, Robert, from 1949 until the late 1980s. He also worked part-time as a carpenter. Richard was an advocate for fair-market prices for farmers and was involved in organizing “tractor-cades” into Washington, DC. He was former president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Agricultural Movement and a member of the Farm Bureau and Elks Club. Richard held a broad range of interests, including renovating farm equipment, landscaping and building projects, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his brother, Robert P. Gosheff of Gambrills, sisters, Hilda Stinchcomb of Annapolis and Mary Lou Pearson of Norfolk and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to Richard’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, May 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
