ichard Smith Hylton “Dick”, age 66, a three year resident of Galesville died on Monday, March 11 at home with his daughter Kimberly by his side. Before moving to Galesville, Dick lived in St. Augustine, FL and Annapolis, and anywhere in between aboard his 32 ft. Westsail “Mad Dog”. Born on April 19, 1946 in Baltimore to the late Kathryn S. and Claude Hylton, Sr., Dick attended Catonsville High School and graduated from the Boys Latin School in 1964. He played both football and lacrosse in high school, and while at Boys Latin, he won the Maryland state lacrosse championship in 1964. After high school, Dick served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division in Korea from 1965 to 1969 where he earned a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. In 1971 Dick graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of Maryland. After college he worked in the livestock industry with Hylton Brothers Farm in Mingo, WV. He was a true entrepreneur throughout his life. Dick was a member of the National Rifle Association and belonged to several pistol clubs. He enjoyed creating new and interesting cocktails to share with his many friends and was an avid storyteller. He also was an artist and specialized in woodcarving, leather crafts, drawing and painting. As an avid waterman, he enjoyed crabbing, fishing and sailing. He also loved dogs and horses, especially his grand-dog, Lili. Dick is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Hylton of Annapolis; two brothers, Claude Hylton, Jr. of Charleston, WV and John Hylton of Catonsville; his former wife, Janet Hylton of Edgewater; a niece, Alyson Hylton of Charleston, WV and a nephew, Jesse Hylton of Catonsville. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18 at 1:00pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National Rifle Association, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030.
