Richard G. Jepson - Obituary

R

ichard (Rick) Gerard Jepson was born 16 March 1954 in Fort Ord, CA, and died 30 March 2022 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD, from complications of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. He was the third of five children born to the late Capt. John Arthur (USN retired) and the late Elizabeth Jayne (nee Riley) Jepson. He is survived by his brothers: John R., Michael A., and Robert J. Jepson and their spouses: Josephine Magurn, Mary Collins, and Patricia (nee Burleson), respectively. Rick’s lone sister, Kathleen C. Jepson, the oldest of the five children, died in 2020. As a USN dependent, Rick lived in California, Guam, Maryland, and England. He completed his education in 1974, graduating from London Central High in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Early in life, Rick spent time on the Chesapeake Bay at his maternal grandmother’s house in Bay Ridge. He learned to sail Penguin class dinghies and eventually bought a 16’ Hobie catamaran, in which he raced competitively. Rick owned and trained several Labrador retrievers, competing in hunt tests with his favorite yellow Lab, Emma. Rick worked at the Annapolis Mall for Hecht Co. and Macy’s for 30 years as a shipping and receiving clerk. He attended both St. Mary’s and St. John Neumann Catholic churches in Annapolis. Rick was instrumental in the care of his maternal grandmother, his mother, and his sister in their later lives, allowing them to live in their homes long after they might have otherwise because of various health conditions. He was a devoted grandson, son, and brother, ever willing to help family, neighbors, friends and often, perfect strangers. The family invites you to remember and celebrate Rick on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, from 1-4 PM, at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Philip Merrill Environmental Center, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis 21403.
