ichard William “Dick” Jones, Sr., 86, a 22-year resident of Edgewater, MD, and previously of Lanham, MD, passed away on July 12, 2024. Born on December 12, 1937, in Washington, DC, to the late Elizabeth and Harvey Jones, Dick graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1955 before going on to graduate from the University of Maryland in 1959. Following university, Dick went on to have established careers with Chevrolet, Smith’s Transfer and Storage, American Advertising Federation, American Personnel and Guidance Association, American Film Institute, and Accounting Unlimited. He was a parishioner at Grace Presbyterian Church of Davidsonville, the Greenbelt Lions Club, and the Bowie Magic Club, and a lifetime Kentland VFD member. Dick enjoyed golf, bowling, and magic and was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins and Nationals. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his step-father, Maurice “Sully” Sullivan, and two brothers, Harvey Jr. and Ronald. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Nellie Anna Jones; his children, Richard Jones, Jr. of Odenton, MD and Theresa Huff of Port Charlotte, FL; his grandsons, Gregory Shackelford, Robert and David Huff, and Brenden, Hunter, and Jason Jones; his granddaughter, Hailey Cotarelo, and three great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Dick’s life on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. His funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19 at 10:00 am at Grace Presbyterian Church, 4012 Birdsville Rd., Davidsonville, MD 21035. Interment will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to an Alzheimer’s research charity of your choice or to the Lions Club International Foundation.
