Richard Severson - Obituary

ichard "Dick" Thomas Severson, a 57-year resident of Edgewater, passed away at his home on October 21, 2013. He was 84. Born July 3, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN, he retired from the United States Navy. During his naval career, Dick travelled to Hawaii, Japan, Germany, Cyprus and Adak, Alaska. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ralph Severson and a sister, Jean Schutti. Dick is survived by his wife, whom he married on August 24, 1951 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage, Patricia Severson; five sons, Richard Severson, Timothy Severson and Brett Severson, all of Edgewater, Kevin Severson of Dunkirk and Joseph Severson of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Davis and Karen Patnaude, both of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Phil Severson of Lewiston, ID; nine grandsons, Johnny Davis, Andy Severson, Sean Severson, Bryan Anderson, Justin Severson, Ryan Severson, Kellen Severson, Gregory Anderson and Michael Severson; and seven granddaughters, Jenny Davis, Noelle Chick, Crystal Severson, Colleen Anderson, Samantha Severson, Heather Severson and Ellen Severson. Also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Dick's Life Celebration Thursday, October 24 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 25 at 1pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
