ita Ann Gilleland, 75, a two year resident of Chester, MD and previously of Germantown, MD died January 14, 2009 at the Spa Creek Center in Annapolis, MD from complications due to pancreatic cancer.
Born, November 30, 1933 in Washington, D.C., she was a graduate of St. Cecelia's High School in Washington, D.C. She was employed as a drafts person for many years. She was an accomplished artist; her artwork graced the cover of the AAMC Auxiliary Cookbook. Her hobbies included artwork, painting, quilting and sewing. She was a volunteer with Anne Arundel Medical Center, where she met many of her friends.
She was the beloved wife of the late George T. Gilleland; mother of John T. Gilleland of Annapolis, MD and Chris Gilleland of South Carolina; sister of John Ward of Florida and the late Richard Ward; mother in law of Jane Gilleland of Annapolis, MD; grandmother of John, Casey, Nikki, Sean and Matthew Gilleland.
A celebration of Rita's life will be offered on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the AAMC Foundation, Sajak Pavilion, Suite 240, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
