obert “Bob” Jay Anderson, Jr. of Shady Side, MD passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2026 after a long illness. He was 83 years old. Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri on the 4th of July, 1942 to the late Robert Jay Anderson, Sr. and Bernice Anderson. He worked for the U.S. government for many years, after serving in the Navy, he eventually retired from the Social Security Administration as a Communications Officer. His hobbies included fishing and golfing. Along with his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister Judy Bigelow. He is survived by his wife Barbara Phelps Anderson, daughters Catherine Anderson-Smallwood of Kentucky and Jennifer Anderson-Kushnir of Kentucky, step children William Phelps of Maryland, Brian Phelps of Maryland, Tricia Phelps-Deridder of Florida, and Jennifer Phelps of Maryland, sister Victoria Travis of South Carolina, grandchildren Ryan and Hayden, step-grandchildren Alex, Blade, Skye, and Chloe, as well as 3 step great-grandchildren.
