Robert Bassford - Obituary

obert "Bob" Leroy Bassford, Sr., 85, a sixty-two year resident of Riva, died at his home on Thursday, May 22, due to complications of a stroke after a six year illness. Born September 1, 1928 in Annapolis, Bob graduated from Annapolis High School and was employed by John Driggs Construction as a heavy equipment operator for 35 years. His hobbies included automobile racing, boating and motorcycles. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Garofalo; a brother, James Bassford and a sister, Virginia Jenkins. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bassford, whom he married August 4, 1949; three sons, Robert L. Bassford, Jr. of Dunkirk, William "Skip" Bassford of Ridgely and Bryan Bassford of Leonardtown. He is also survived by one granddaughter, three grandsons and two great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Bob's Life Celebration from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, May 27 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater where his funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 28. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
