Robert Cates - Obituary

obert Thayer Cates, 69, of Glenn Dale, Maryland, died January 22, 2015. Bob was born in Baltimore on January 11, 1946 to Louis Thayer Cates and Ann E. Stewart. He earned a BS from the University of University of Maryland, and spent his entire career working for the Space Physics Group at the University of Maryland. Bob married Barbara Lambird on June 17, 1977 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Bob was a lifelong sailor, and was happiest when sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara Lambird, children Elizabeth Anne (Ricky) Gonzalez and Patrick Robert Cates, and two grandchildren Noah Daniel and Samuel Robert Gonzalez.
