obert "Bob" Flaherty, of Annapolis, MD, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015, at his home. Bob was born on February 12, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to Catherine & Joe Flaherty. They moved to Beverly Beach, MD when Bob was 3. He attended Mayo Elementary, Annapolis Junior High and graduated from St. Mary's High School, Annapolis in 1964, where he was Captain of the varsity basketball team. He completed one year at Towson University where he studied toward a degree in physical education and history before deciding to join the Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam, then was transferred to Minot, North Dakota to work in the underground missile installation. He was honorably discharged and received four medals: The Defense Meritorious Service, The Air Force Good Conduct, The Vietnam Service, & the Vietnam Campaign. He left the service with a rank of Master Sergeant. Bob was an avid sports fan and especially followed the Redskins, Ravens, Orioles & Nationals, as well as all basketball teams. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Patrick Flaherty, who died in 2006. He is survived by two sons, Robert Jr. of Indianapolis, IN and Michael, of Annapolis, MD; 3 grandchildren, Cadence, Aden, & Allison; one sister, Joan Flaherty Young; one brother, Michael Flaherty, of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces & nephews. Interment with military honors will take place at 10:45am on Wednesday, June 10 at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd. in Crownsville, MD. Friends are invited to celebrate Robert's life from 4 to 6 pm on Wednesday, June 10 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
