obert Lee “Bob” Hamilton, Sr., 84, of Mitchellville, MD, passed away on October 20, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Davidsonville. Bob was born on July 30, 1931 in Washington, DC. Bob’s parents died when he was very young and he was raised and loved by Henry and Marguerite Hamilton as if he were their own. Bob graduated from Frederick Sasscer High School in Upper Marlboro in 1950 and served for four years in the U.S. Air Force Military Police during the Korean War. Bob worked as a steamfitter for John J. Kirlin, Co., for most of his career. He valued hard work and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 602. He was also a member of the Elks, Loyal Order of Moose and American Legion. Bob enjoyed farming, hunting, bowling, and making and selling wooden crafts, dancing and traveling with his wife Lee. Bob was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty Anne Nicholson; stepdaughter, Ginny Sweeney and five siblings. He is survived by his wife, Leona Hamilton, whom he married in 1992; three children, Robert Lee Hamilton, Jr. (Karen), Betty Jo (Marty) Vermillion and Robin (Chris) Boerckel; his first wife, Betty Anne’s three children whom he raised as his own, Patty Rossback-Barr, Bobby (Cathy) Rossback and Barbara (Neal) Allen; and his wife Leona’s children, Karen Whitney (Bill) and Sheila (Ray) Alcorn; three sisters, Roberta Zierhart and Jeanette Choloski of Virginia and Evelyn Scarborough of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, Jessica Hamilton, Robert Lee Hamilton III, Timmy Hamilton, Kristin Boerckel, Maegan Yarbrough, Jake Vermillion, Amber Hamilton, Nick Vermillion and Nathan Vermillion. Thirteen step-grandchildren, twenty step-great grandchildren, and his first biological great grandchild, Robert Lee Hamilton IV, due any day. Friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life on Monday, October 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 27 from 1 p.m. until his funeral service begins at 2 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054.
