R

obert C. (Bob) Lose, 89, of Stevensville and formerly of Edgewater for 29 years, died of renal failure Sunday, September 1 at his home. He was born December 11, 1923 in Brookville, PA and raised in Miami, FL. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner in squadron VB104 and flew 54 combat missions in the South Pacific. He received the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Presidential Unit Citation. Following his military service Bob attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he graduated in 1950 with a Civil Engineering Degree. He was employed in various civil engineering positions prior to being employed by the U.S. Navy for 26 years. He retired in 1984. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis and served as an usher for many years at the Knights of Columbus and St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1384 and Lodge 622 of the Brotherhood of Elks. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny, whom he married in 1944 in San Diego, CA and who died in 2001. He is survived by two sons, R. Timothy Lose of Edgewater and Matthew M. Lose of Newport Beach, CA ; a daughter, Caitlin Gilles of Beloit, WI and three granddaughters. Friends are invited to Bob’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 5 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9a.m. on Friday, September 6 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis. Interment will take place at Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
