obert (Bob) Burr Shillingburg January 25, 1933-July 28, 2011 Robert (Bob) Burr Shillingburg, 78 of Annapolis, MD, went to the loving arms of his wife of 49 years, Jean, on Thursday, July 28, 2011. Born in Midland, MD on January 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Burr Shillingburg and Ruth Reynolds Shillingburg, Midland Maryland. He is survived by his devoted daughter Robyn Ann Hogle, Annapolis; one sister, Jean Parker and husband, Donald, Midland; sisters–in-law Chloe Dhillon, Annapolis; Cassie Martin, Sykesville; Maggie Hoff and husband Bernie, Annapolis; and Teri Brown, Cumberland; and a brother-in-law Ed Robertson and wife Rebecca, Sylacauga, AL. In addition to his parents and wife Jeannie, he was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Broadwater and her husband Donald, Midland; brothers-in-law N. Singh Dhillon, Annapolis; Buck Martin, Sykesville; Rob Robertson, Bisbee, AZ; and Richard Brown, Cumberland. Burr was a 1951 graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg Md. Following high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the submarine corps. At the end of his enlistment he used his G.I. benefits and worked part time at the Pulp Mill in Luke Maryland to earn a teaching degree from Frostburg State Teachers College. He was married to his childhood sweetheart in 1960 and moved to Annapolis. His 30 year teaching career with Anne Arundel County Public Schools included teaching math and science at Annapolis Junior High and Annapolis Senior High followed by several years as Assistant Principal. Burr was a member of American Legion Post 7 where he spent many afternoons with his comrades in arms sharing stories. He was a great athlete, an avid runner and tennis player, and was a big Washington Redskins fan. Burr was a wonderful neighbor and friend, always willing to take people to airports and watch pets while they were away. He and his wife Jeannie enjoyed trips out West and especially loved Arizona. He was a very genuine person and was loved by everyone. He was a smart man with a scientific mind that loved the simple pleasures of life. We hope those who join us for the memorial service will recall the many funny stories we all have about him. Friends are invited to Burr’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:30am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037.
