obert D. Williams, Sr., “Bob”, age 89, a resident of Edgewater for 57 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10 at his home. Born on June 21, 1924 in Washington, D.C. to the late Irene P. Robinson and Joseph W. Williams, Bob attended high school in D.C. and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Pacific as a radioman 2nd Class aboard several ships during World War II. After being honorably discharged in November 1945, he began his career as an apprentice printer with Sheiry Press. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, Bob opened his own printing company, Aetna Press. During his career he was also employed by Judd & Detweiler, Inc., Clemons Printing Co. and McCall Printing Co. Bob was a 66 year honored member of the International Typographical Union (ITU), the Columbia Typographical Union (CTU 101-12), the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis and American Legion Post 226 in Mayo for 38 years, where he served as the service officer. Being born on the first full day of summer, Bob loved the warm weather and enjoyed boating, swimming and pitching horseshoes. His favorite times were spent at his home enjoying his pool with his friends and family. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jeanne May Williams; his daughter, Candace “Candy” Jean Roche, a sister and 3 brothers. He is survived by a brother, Eugene J. Williams of Myrtle Beach, SC; a son, Robert D. Williams, Jr. of Key West, FL; a daughter, Cindy Lee Ward of Edgewater; 7 grandchildren, Kyle Garrett and Sean Garrett Williams, Allison Irene and Brittany Renee Roche, Lindsay Jeanne and Daniel West Ward and Jessica Lee Hill and 8 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Bob’s Life Celebration from 5 to 8pm on Friday, May 16 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater where his funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 17. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
