obert A. Wilson, “Bob,” 85, a 26-year resident of Edgewater and previously of College Park for 34 years, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on June 24, 1940, in Washington, DC to the late Thomas and Eleanor Wilson. He attended the University of Maryland where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering and he obtained his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Catholic University.
Bob began his career at Boeing Company followed by a 31-year career with the Naval Surface Warfare Center at the David Taylor Model Basin in Carderock, MD, where he retired as Head of the Programs Department, Ship Systems & Programs Directorate.
He was a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, and his hobbies included boating, fishing, spending time with his family, and mentoring future engineers.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Yankowy.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Joan B. Wilson, his children, Thomas Wilson and his wife Theresa of Edgewater, MD and Karen Salehi and her husband Mack of Davidsonville, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Colin Wilson and his wife Ashley (children Emersyn and Marshall), Corianne Wilson (child Waylon), Matthew Wilson, and Emily Salehi.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd. Edgewater, MD 21037, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
