obert Charles Woofter, 86, a twenty-five year resident of Fort Washington, Maryland passed away last Friday, July 12, 2013. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Bob was a remarkable man: loving, gentle, and affectionate. Everyone called him Uncle Bob. He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, sailor, police officer, preacher, world traveller, writer, painter, hunter, and a fourth degree black belt in judo. He served in the navy in WWII and was one of the first few to land in Hiroshima to assess the damage done by the atomic bomb. He was a pastor for many years before he moved to the Metropolitan DC area to become a police officer. He loved John Wayne, the history of Native Americans, football, Reese's peanut butter cups and quarter pounder with cheese at McDonald's. He was good at telling jokes and loved receiving them in return. He is survived by his wife Luz Woofter, daughters Rhonda Woofter and Marsha Finlason and her husband Toby Finlason, stepsons Ernest Valmonte and Eric Valmonte, and stepdaughter Elaine Valmonte-Tomek and her husband Chip Tomek. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. On Thursday, July 18 family and friends are invited to Robert's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill MD, from 10:00am until time of memorial service at 11:00am. Refreshments will be served after tne service.
