oger D. Bailey, “Blue”, a resident of Edgewater, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born on November 17, 1957 in Mullens, WV, Roger moved to Washington, D.C. in 1959. In 1964 he moved to the Four Corners area of Silver Spring where he attended Pine Crest Elementary, Eastern Junior High and Northwood High School. In 1976 he moved to Woodland Beach and briefly attended Southern High School. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1978, completed his basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ then graduated from infantry school at Ft. Benning, GA. For the next three years he was assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY with the 101st Airborne/ Air Assault Unit as a scout observer and in 1981 he re-enlisted and joined the Chemical Corps. After attaining the rank of Sgt/E5 Roger was honorably discharged in 1984 and returned to Woodland Beach where he began doing carpentry work. In his spare time he loved riding his Low Rider, cooking for his family and friends and nature.
Roger was predeceased by his mother, Hester (Saunders) Brehm; father, John P Bailey; brother, David Bailey and his sister, Gloria Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Rachel C. Bailey; a son, Joshua Bailey of Edgewater; two daughters, Ashley (Eric Schoene) Bailey of Edgewater and Crystal Bailey of Tennessee; two brothers, John Bailey of Virginia and Tim Brehm of Glen Burnie; a sister, Carol (William “Butch”) Farrell of Centreville; 6 Nephews, 5 Nieces, 7 Great Nieces & Nephews and two grandsons, Kaleb and Landen.
Friends are invited to Roger’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday, April 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A graveside service will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD on Monday, April 2 at 1:45pm.
