Ronald C. Allen - Obituary

onald C. Allen, Jr. Ronald Converse Allen, Jr., 85, of Annapolis died peacefully on October 22, 2018. Ron was born on September 28, 1933 in Pittsfield, MA where he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1951. He subsequently attended the University of Maryland graduating in February 1955 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. That same year, after successfully completing ROTC, Ron was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Upon release from active duty in 1961 he remained in the Air Force Reserve serving in various assignments for 32 years retiring at the rank of Major General. At his retirement, he held the position of Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Inspector General in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. Upon retirement he was presented one of the highest military awards of the Air Force, the Distinguished Service Medal. In civilian life, Ron held several positions in Federal Civil Service including five years at the former Annapolis Division of the David Taylor Model Basin where he served as head of the Computer Systems and Operations Branch. In 1968 he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from American University. Later assignments included positions with the U.S. Department of Justice and as a member of the Surveys and Investigations staff of the Appropriations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Allen, his three children Ronita Evans, her husband Strohm, Karl Allen, his wife Debbie and Daniel Allen, his wife Sue. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Nila and Andrew Evans, Ryan and Karlee Allen and Danielle and Jake Allen. Services will be private at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
