onald “Pops†R. Schultz, a resident of Heritage Harbour, in Annapolis and previously a 25 year resident of Lanham, MD died Thursday September 4, 2008 at his residence after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was 73. Born November 9, 1934 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Rudolph and Sophie Schultz, he graduated from Central High School in Scranton and later received a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland and a M.A. degree from Bowie State University. He retired from the US Army as a Special Agent for Army Intelligence, CIC -Counterintelligence Corps. After his retirement from the military he worked as an adjuster for Nationwide Insurance Co. and later owned a private investigation business. Ronald was a member of American Legion Post 7 in Crownsville, St. Mary's Church Knights of Columbus Council 1384, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Counterintelligence Corps Assoc. His hobbies included watching the Military Channel ,the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles on TV, and collecting coins ,stamps and military memorabilia. He was an avid reader of Philosophy and Religion, and also enjoyed square dancing and country music,. He loved spending time with his family but most especially his 5 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Shirley Schultz, whom he married in June of 1955, his son Ronald Schultz, Jr. of Waldorf, MD and his daughters, Susan Waters of Annapolis, MD and Kimberly Lavinder of Bowie, MD. He is also survived by his brother Ernie Schultz of Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, 5 grandchildren an many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday September 12, 2008 at 1:00pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD 21401. The family will have a private interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ronald's name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to St. Mary's Renewing the Light Campaign 113 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.
