onald Melvin Turner, “R.T.”, 63, a 4-year resident of Prince Frederick, MD and previously of Shady Side, MD died on June 28, 2011 at Calvert Memorial Hospital from complications due to cancer.
Born September 18, 1947 in Washington, D.C., he worked as a yacht painter, handyman and in construction. Ronald was a two-time Purple Heart recipient from his service in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. R.T. was a member of the District Heights American Legion and the Shady Side Moose, Chapter 1887 in South County. He enjoyed country and 50’s music, Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys football, NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and cooking.
He is survived by one son, Dwayne Turner; two daughters, Julie Turner and Holly Hancock; four sisters, Mary Burgess of Davidsonville, Joanne Jett of Newberg, MD, Darlene Lyons of Shady Side and Cheryl Jett of Lusby; two brothers, Wayne Turner of Brunswick, GA and Charles F. Turner, Jr.; also survived by five grandchildren, John, Dustin, Richie, Kelsea and Lacey.
Friends are invited to Ronald’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD.
