osemary D. Weller, 85, of Ft. Washington, MD died on February 11, 2023. Born on September 22, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Frank P. and Margaret Doheny. Rosemary is survived by her son Michael Weller, daughter-in-law Sara Levin Weller, granddaughter Ilana Weller, two brothers, Frank P. Doheny, Jr. of Louisville, KY, and Edward J. Doheny of Washington, DC, and her two nephews, Brian C. Doheny and F. Patrick Doheny of Louisville, KY. Her husband of 54 years, Joseph F. Weller, predeceased her in 2020. As a child, Ms. Weller moved from Chicago to Peoria, IL, and later to Louisville, KY where she completed high school at Sacred Heart Academy. In 1959, she earned her undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. She then began her teaching career at La Porte High School, in Indiana, teaching Communication and coaching the State Championship debate team. Later, she earned a Master’s degree from The Catholic University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland with a specialization in Special Education. Ms. Weller’s professional career spanned over 40 years at Gallaudet University where she taught Speech Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking. She was Chair of the Communication Department for many years. In retirement, Ms. Weller was active in the Tantallon Citizens Association, the Tanta-Cove Garden Club, and has been the editor of the community newsletter for 19 years. She served as an usher at The Arena Stage in Washington, DC, for almost 20 years. A funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13405 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. Friends may pay their respects to the family at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Friday, February 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to The Arena Stage, 1101 6 th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20024, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
