oy E. Griest, 71, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 10th. He was born October 21, 1946, in Washington, DC where he resided until the family moved to MD in 1955. He graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1964. He actively served in the US Air Force from 1967 - 1970, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After working for the US Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion of Greenbelt, MD.
Roy was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Annapolis where he participated in the choir, Bible studies, various councils and the men’s group. He also enjoyed attending the monthly Senior Luncheon at Cheverly United Methodist Church in Cheverly. His favorite pastimes included trips to Sight & Sound Theatre, photography, jigsaw puzzles, sightseeing, and beach vacations. Roy was a devoted follower of Christ who gave freely and generously to others -- and will always be remembered for his delicious homemade cookies and breads.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Griest, and brother Alan Griest.
Roy is survived by his brother Robert Griest, Jr. (Phyllis), and his sister Betty Griest Chamblee, and many other relatives.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Roy's Life on Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 10 am until his funeral service begins at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West St., Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow the service at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, 3410 Bladensburg, Rd., Brentwood, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
