Russell Bishop - Obituary

ussell W. Bishop, 66, of Millersville, MD, passed away October 6, 2009, after a 4-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born September 9, 1943 in Laurel, MD to the late Claude Bishop and Maude Bishop Lawrence, he graduated from Northwestern High School in 1961. He worked for Government Printing Office for several years, then the Department of Navy, where he eventually became Director of Printing at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He retired from the government in 1998. Russ enjoyed golf, camping, traveling and home projects. He was a member of the Good Sam Traveling Americans group. He loved and adored being with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Bishop and step-son, Darren Williams. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Bishop of Millersville, MD; devoted father of Donna Parkinson of Glen Burnie, MD and Michelle Bakeris of Ellicott City, MD; stepfather of Jennifer Nevins of Centreville, MD, Andrea Eckles of Rosemont, MD and Eric Williams, Bristolville, OH; brother of Robert Lawrence of Laurel, MD, Diana Stephenson of Boonsboro, MD and Donald Bishop of Silver Spring, MD; he is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Friends are invited to Russell's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Saturday, October 11, 2009 from 10:00am until time of service beginning at 12:00pm. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD. If friends wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
