R

uth Rosaline Huffer, “Gram”, “Grammy”, a resident of Annapolis for 76 years, died on Saturday, December 10 at Crofton Care & Rehab. Center after a brief illness. She was born April 26, 1916 in Ellicott City, MD to the late Leonard and Rosaline Fisher. She was educated in the Howard County school system before attending Anne Arundel Community College. Ruth worked for the Anne Arundel County School Board as a Special Education teacher. She began her career as an aide at Sunny Acre School and later worked at Central Special School in Edgewater. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis and also the Retired Teachers Association. Her hobbies include music, crafts, reading and being a 4-H leader. She enjoyed camping with her friends in motor homes, and visited every state in the United States. Ruth’s special need students always held a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her husband, Atlee Huffer, who died in 1991 and whom she married in 1934. She is survived by her son, Robert Huffer of Annapolis; three daughters, Janet Zadera of Annapolis, MD, Alice Howze of Jacksonville, FL and Sharon Myers of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., and her sister Mary Fisher Wessel of Hampstead, MD. Ruth is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Ruth’s Life Celebration on Thursday, December 15, at 12:30pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Boulevard, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
