Ruth M. Zmijewski - Obituary

uth Zmijewski had 87 years well lived as a loving mother, cherished grandmother and a devout Catholic. She was born on December 16, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Mary and Joseph Holcombe. She married Richard Zmijewski in 1955 and they happily raised their two children in Colonia. She was steadfast in her faith and in her belief that family was the most important thing that one could have. Ruth welcomed everyone into her life, bound by blood or bond. It showed in her vibrant social life during her adult years in her community of Leisure Village in Lakewood, New Jersey. Her quick-wit and quiet sense of humor often had family and friends beside themselves in laughter. Ruth truly exemplified love and joy everywhere she went. A voice of reason, Ruth could often be found sharing advice with others or praying for her loved ones. She taught us that strength and dignity can take many forms. Ruth endured grief in the loss of significant men in her life. She lost her husband of 42 years, Richard Zmijewski in 1997; her 51 year old son, Gregory Zmijewski in 2011 and her loving companion of 20 years, Pasquale Pontrantolfi in November. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Dennis; her grandchildren and extended family. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Church of the Visitation, 730 Lynnwood Ave., Brick Township, NJ.
