am John Anastasis passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20 in Annapolis, MD surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia and its side effects. Born on March 20, 1939 in Klausion, Greece to the late John and Katherine Anastasis, Sam served in the military in Greece and then joined the police academy where he served in Athens until he moved to the United States to be re-united with his family. He worked as a waiter for Duke Zeibert's, Mel Crupin's when Duke's closed, and again for Duke's when it re-opened. He retired from Duke's and shared his time between Athens and Gambrills for many years. After his diagnosis with LBD Sam lived permanently with his son, John and his family. Sam is survived by his children, John (Samantha) Anastasis and Katherine (David) Lewis; six beautiful grandchildren, Christopher, Niki, Demi, Eli, Lexi, and Sam; his brother, Jimmy (Mary) of Athens and his sister, Vasiliki of Silver Spring, MD; his ex-wife and friend, Alex (Pat); his niece, Dina (Jimmy); his nephews, Chris (Cathy) and John, his great nieces Maria and Elle, his great nephew Alex, as well as numerous friends both here and in Greece. He will be missed by his family and all those who knew him as a loyal, kind, and considerate friend.
Friends may call at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD on Wednesday, January 2 from 10:30 AM until his funeral service begins at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greeki Orthodox Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.
