amantha Ann Rankin, 21, a 19-year resident of Riva, MD and previously of Crofton, MD died on May 31, 2010 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital from complications due to mono after a 1 month illness.
Born November 19, 1988 in Prince George's County, she graduated from South River High School in 2007 and attended Clemson University as an accounting major, where she was a member of the Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority. Sam worked at Chases Produce Stand in Davidsonville for many years. She rowed with the Annapolis Junior Crew team for 4 years. Sam loved to do counted cross stitching and was always helping others.
She is survived by her parents, Vickie and Bart Rankin both of Riva; 1 sister, Brandie Rankin of home; her grandparents, Richard and Bonnie Rankin of Upper Marlboro, MD and James and Fern Kapp of Bradenton, FL ; also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is predeceased by her grandparents, Helen Kapp and Joseph and Marlene Sandor.
Friends are invited to Sam's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Friday, June 4 from 1 to 3pm and 6 to 9pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 11am at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment to follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
