amuel Gene Willsey, a thirty-year resident of Harwood, MD, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at his home, of cancer following an eight-year illness. He was 74.
Known to everyone as Gene, he was born on January 13, 1943, in Tulsa, OK to the late Samuel Willsey and Flois D. Banzet. Gene was raised by the late Melvin and Emily Hamilton. He served in the United States Army from 1961-67. Following his discharge from the military, Gene founded Genes Plumbing, Inc. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and fishing and was a longtime member of the North American Hunting Club and the Pope and Young Club.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 19 years, Sue K.Willsey and two siblings, Barry and Jana Banzet.
He is survived by four children, Randy and Steve Willsey, Deana Rogers and Sherri Sheridan; two stepdaughters, Michelle Evens and Dawn Dean; two siblings, Danny and Joette Banzet; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to celebrate Gene's life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday, January 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Service and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7500 Greenway Center Drive, Ste. 300, Greenbelt, MD 20770.
