Sarah Jane Janowski - Obituary

arah Jane Janowski, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Crofton, MD on April 24, 2022 after a life well lived. Sarah was born to Vance and Myrtle Allen in 1936 and was raised on a farm in the Chattanooga, TN area. She was Salutatorian of her high school class and was a member of the basketball and softball teams. She went to work at a Bank in Chattanooga where she met Edward, who was stationed nearby. The couple married in 1958 and were soon off to McClellan AFB in Sacramento, CA and later settled in Central Maryland. She worked in the banking industry, as an executive secretary for one of the first HMOs in Maryland, and for the State of Maryland as a Legislative Administrator until she retired in 2002. She enjoyed her work, the challenges each “Session” brought, and the relationships with the many fine people she worked with over many years. Sarah will be remembered as a gracious host, a compassionate listener, and a progressive thinker who could hold her own in conversation or debate. In her spare time, Sarah enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She was always up for a road trip. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward, in 2003. She is survived by her children, Michael Janowski of Ventura, CA and Carol Melinda Janowski of Friendship, MD; grandchildren, Eric Hughes of Lothian, MD; Amanda Bowen of Friendship, MD; Lyle Janowski of Ventura, CA and Jason Janowski of Ventura, CA; and four great-grandchildren. Sarah will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to the Wounded Warrior Project, Boystown, or a charity of ones choice.
