S

arah McCray, a resident of Annapolis, Maryland for over 20 years and previously of Oxon Hill, Maryland died on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in Annapolis, Maryland. She was 87. Born May 4, 1927 in Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland, she graduated from Hanover High School in 1944. She began her career at the Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Later, she came to Washington, D.C. in search of better employment. She worked at the United Mine Workers Pension Fund, where she met her husband, Willis E. McCray. She later worked as a writer-editor for the Federal Aviation Administration, where her love for absolutely correct English grammar was put to good use. Sarah was a Eucharistic Minister at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis, Maryland. She was a tutor for English as a second language and gave reading assistance to those who did not graduate from high school. She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Willis, in 1981. Sarah is survived by a daughter, Sara Rowe and her husband, Christopher, of Arlington, Virginia; and two sisters, Ann Cacciatore of Annapolis, Maryland and Doreen Stabile of Bayonne, New Jersey. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Maryland on Wednesday, February 11 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, Maryland on Thursday, February 12 at 10:30am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
