cott John Haring, 46, a 20-year resident of Maryland, died on May 19, 2010 at his home in Odenton, MD. Born June 28, 1963 in York, PA to M. Jane Haring and the late Mervin “Skip†Haring, Scott received his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA in 1986. Scott worked in the newspaper industry for more than twenty years. He began his career with the Gettysburg Times in 1987. He then worked at the Frederick News-Post from 1988 to 1990. From 1990 to 1999 Scott worked at The Capital Newspaper in Annapolis as a page designer/ copy editor and assistant news editor. From 1999-2009 Scott worked at the Washington Times as design editor/ special sections, assistant features editor and assistant sports editor; he also was a food critic for the Washington Times weekend magazine. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD, Society for News Design and Phi Sigma Kappa. Scott was an avid sports fan, especially for the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Flyers.
He was the beloved husband of Loretta Haring, whom he married on September 25, 1993; father of Rachel Haring of Odenton, MD; brother of Shawn (Jeanna) Haring of Dillsburg, PA and Karla (Chris) Kaster of York Haven, PA; uncle of Elayna Haring of Dillsburg, PA; nephew of Donald and Deb Haring and Sidney and Sheila Haring of York Haven, PA, Lester and Sue Haring, Dennis and Karon Haring, Terry Haring, Ronald and Beverly King and JoAnn Hoover-Sweigart of Etters, PA, Walter and Pat Haring and Brad and Shirley Krebs of Mount Wolf, PA, Patsy Murr of York, PA and Terry Sterner of Manchester, PA.
Friends are invited to Scott's Life Celebration at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD on Monday, May 24 from 10am until a Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11am. Interment Crossroad Cemetery, Lewisberry, PA on Tuesday, May 25 at 1pm.
