Shane Matthew Kutz - Obituary

n August 6, 2026 the world lost a son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and hero to some. Shane M. Kutz, 34, of Davidsonville, MD, left far too soon leaving behind a multitude of people who each loved Shane uniquely. Shane, the son of Jodi Kinney and Kevin Kutz, was born on March 19, 1992 living in Elkridge, MD. Shane was 10 lbs 2 oz at birth. So, yes, he has always been a big baby. Growing taller than most of his classmates Shane enjoyed playing rec basketball and always dreamed of being able to dunk. Even at 6’ 4” you still have to be able to jump to dunk a basketball. Shane shared equal time with his mom and dad after their divorce and eventually moved to Pasadena, MD to become the brother of Josh and Brianne Jacobs. The community never understood that Shane had a sister the same age who was not a twin. Shane’s passions and creative thinking started at a young age when asked the name of his small stuffed puppy and he responded with “Dirt.” Shane also thoughtfully addressed his grandfather as Putt-Putt because they would sit together playing with toy John Deere tractors with his grandfather expressing “putt, putt, putt, putt.” Dirt, the no nose puppy (Shane sucked it off) continues to reside with his mother. His grandfather, 86, is rarely called anything but Putt-Putt by the people who know him. Shane had a passion for cars and the unique things he could do with them. His senior year in high school he was awarded the “innovation award” in shop class for filling his windshield washer fluid tank with Kool Aid and porting the delivery tube to the car’s dashboard to fill an ice filled cup on demand. After graduation from Chesapeake High School in Pasadena in 2010, Shane followed his passion for cars and his unequaled knowledge of them to complete studies at the Universal Technical Institute in 2012 to become a certified auto mechanic. Shane followed his love for years which led him to eventually work for his step-brother Josh at Anchored Marine. Building new piers and bulkheads and working with the “crew” was where Shane wanted to be but the physical grind eventually took its toll and Shane moved on to working on pools in the Pasadena area. Shane’s passion for cars never ended and saw him buy and sell any number of cars, especially vintage Hondas, and attracted him to a large group of friends who shared his love. These friends were the cornerstone of his life, and he was blessed to have them and them he. Shane left behind his most recent love, a 1998 Honda Civic with 620000+ miles. If Shane couldn’t be buying or selling a real car, he maintained a large collection of RC cars that he raced anywhere and everywhere he could. He focused on this love at the hobby shop in Pasadena and could be found there routinely helping to manage weekend races. Starting at a young age Shane also found a love for cats, first with Cinnamon at his mom’s house, then Lexus (of course) at his dad’s house, then Peter and Pop Tart. Shane wasted none of his 34 years, enjoying cars, friendship, music, and cats. He could regularly be found at the track, the hobby shop, the car wash parking lot, or a concert. If the world needed someone to lead the fun or to fix what’s broken, Shane was front and center to be as goofy as the situation needed or to apply his unparalleled knowledge to resolve the issue. Shane leaves behind his mother Jodi Kinney (Marc Kinney), father Kevin Kutz (Linda Kutz), grandfather Ernie (Putt Putt) Hall, grandmother Joanne Hall, step-grandmother Pauline Fauth, step-brother Josh Jacobs (Julie Jacobs), step-sister Brianne Good (Matt Good), Aunt Cindy Osterman (Rod Demember), Uncle JR Hall (Michelle Hall), Uncle Jeff Kutz (Patty Kutz), Aunt Wendy Kutz (Mona Lacy), Uncle Steve Kutz (Courtney Womack), along with a number of other relatives, a multitude of friends, his forever old car, Lexus, Pop Tart, and Dirt. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shane's life on Friday, August 14 from 5 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Shane’s name to Last Chance Animal Rescue (online here).
