Shirley Ann Dodgson - Obituary

O

n Monday, February 7, 2022, the world has lost a truly beautiful soul. Shirley Ann (Lint) Dodgson, 88, has been released from this world to meet her maker. She has earned every feather of her spectacular wings. Shirley was born on March 9, 1933, in Connellsville, PA. She had six other siblings. She started helping others at a young age by helping her mother take care of the other children in her family. Shirley loved living in the mountains of Pennsylvania and would love to tell stories of living in a two-room cabin and walking to the one-room schoolhouse she attended with all grades. She met the love of her life when Delbert “Deb” Dodgson asked her to go to the sophomore prom when she was 16. They were married 3 years later and moved to Detroit, Michigan. It was in Detroit that Shirley had Charles (Chuck) and David, the first of her four children. Then they moved to Centerville, VA, then into Maryland and Shirley had her first and only daughter, Susan. Then her youngest, Michael was born a couple of years later. Shirley worked as a nurse’s aide in the NICU, was an aide on school buses for mentally challenged adults, and was a bus driver for public schools. She taught Sunday school, baked her own bread, and loved to host family gatherings. She was a talented painter and could bring one-dimensional pictures to life. She dabbled for a time in floral arrangements but always went back to her painting. Shirley loved her family very much and had the honor of being a Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and just recently a Great-Great-Grandmother. She will be missed by generations of us. Shirley is predeceased by her husband Delbert; her brothers Donald C. Lint, James W. Lint, Richard C. Lint; her sisters, Mrs. Doris Nedley and Mrs. Emma Lou Lehman. She is survived by her brother Kenneth L. Lint (Betty); her children Charles (Jenny), David (Joanie), Susan and Michael (Beth). Grandchildren Cliff, Tiffany, Corey, Ernest Paul, BettyJo, Joshua, Andrew, Chloe, and Eli. Great-Grandchildren Hailey, Connor, and Dillon and Great-Great-Granddaughter Evelyn. A celebration of Shirleys’ life will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11:30 am in the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD.
