Shirley Johnson - Obituary

hirley was born on February 4, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to the late Mildred and Arthur McCormick. She passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Shirley met her husband, Fred S. Johnson, Jr., on a blind date and were married for almost 60 years before he passed away. She worked for AMVETS for a year, then moved to Mayo, Maryland to raise her family. Shirley enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling, entertaining, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and especially being with her family and friends. She was a member of the American Legion Post 226 Women's Auxiliary. Shirley was predeceased by her husband in 2011; a son, Fred S. Johnson, III; and two brothers, George and Warren McCormick. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Johnson of Mayo, Maryland, Bonnie Michel of Mayo, Maryland and Donna Lee of Port Republic, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Racheal Stimpson, Melissa Lyons, Paul Lee, Dianah Johnson, Holly Michel, Melody Richeson and Rebecca Lee; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Neidenbach and Sherry Bush; and two brothers, Gene and Teddy Fitzgerald. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to all that knew her. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, Maryland on Sunday, March 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2 at 11:30am. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
