Shirley Martin - Obituary

hirley Horne Martin, 70, a 23-year resident of Mayo, MD and previously of West River, MD died at her home on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 of cancer after a 3 month illness. Born August 29, 1941 in Canal Zone, Panama, to the late Elizabeth and Robert C. Horne, Sr., she graduated from Montgomery College in 1990 with a degree in Nursing. Shirley retired from the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality. She loved animals, traveling and the water. Shirley was also an avid reader. Shirley is survived by one brother, Robert C. Horne, Jr. of Severna Park, MD; two nieces, Carrie Wheeler of Warner Robins, GA and Sara Horne of Severna Park, MD; one nephew, Robert M. Horne, Sr. of Lutherville, MD; two grandnephews, RJ and Sawyer Horne of Lutherville, MD; her former husband, William P. Martin; and her best friends, Barbara Stevens of Falmouth, VA and Karen Milam of Marion, VA. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11am at Parklawn Cemetery, 12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD.
