hirley Ann Roy, 78, a two and a half year resident of Edgewater and previously of Richmond, TX, died at her home December 22, 2025 after a five year battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Born in West Monroe, LA on October 1, 1947 to the late Jesse and Theda Norris, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in both English and History from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She then embarked on a long teaching career in secondary education, teaching English when she still lived in Louisiana and then teaching History after moving to Texas.
Shirley was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and her hobbies included reading, completing crossword puzzles, watching PBS and chatting with friends and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gary Roy.
Shirley is survived by her children, Amanda Carlucci of Edgewater, Megan Scudder of Richmond, TX, Matt Roy of Richmond and Andrew Roy of Baton Rouge, LA; her siblings, Sue Cooper of Houma, LA, Lee Spangler of West Monroe and John Norris of Houston; and her grandchildren, Courtney Noderer of Indian Head, MD, Jake and Ethan Scudder of Richmond and Blane Carlucci of Owings Mills, MD.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place in the Houston area at a later date.
