S

tephanie “Steph” Ann Stockman was born in Baltimore, MD, on September 14th,1960. She passed away at the age of 64 on Thursday, March 6th, at La Casa Assisted Living, an Alzheimer's and Dementia care facility in Annapolis, Maryland, after a long battle with Early-onset Alzheimer’s. Stephanie’s family moved from a tight-knit neighborhood in Baltimore to Denton, Maryland, when she was in middle school. She became involved in the 4-H rifle club, journalism club, and played softball; she graduated top of her class. Stephanie then returned to Baltimore for her Bachelor of Science at Towson University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She continued her education at the University of Maryland College Park, receiving a Master’s of Science. Steph’s career with NASA began at Goddard Space Flight Center and later at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. Steph eventually led the educational outreach program for NASA Earth and Space Sciences Directorate, preparing materials and training science teachers throughout the country. Steph was active on social media promoting NASA’s programs under the name Geosteph, reflecting her undergraduate degrees in geology. Stephanie loved animals and owned a cat and dog as pets for most of her life. Steph is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Frank Ireton, her siblings Stacie Waller, Sue Stockman, Frank Stockman, Daughter-in-law Shari Ireton and two grandchildren, Calvin and Natalie Tomsic. She was a favorite aunt to her nieces, Sommer Waller, Sophie Waller, Sienna Chupek, Sequoia Chupek, Josie Stockman, and her nephew, David Stockman. Stephanie’s parents, now deceased, Franklin and Lou Stockman, were extremely proud of her and her accomplishments. Her family is thankful that for the last five years of her journey, she was in the professional and caring hands of La Casa Homes LLC, located in Heritage Harbor, Annapolis, Maryland. A heartfelt thank you to Meredith, Robin, Tara, and the staff for the care they gave her during those trying times. She will be cremated, and her family plans a celebration of her life in the coming months. Per her request, donations may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association and the Shriner’s Hospitals in her memory.
