n Monday, March 24, 2014 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. the beloved husband of Margaret Ann Bishop; father of Pamela Gagliardi and Stephanie McFadden; grandfather of Stephen Gagliardi and Curtis and Taylor McFadden. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. Born in 1932 in Pinola, Mississippi, Stephen Barron Bishop was the son of William James and Susan Lola Bishop. He grew up with five brothers, Ethel, Carver, Curtis, Ernest, and Albert, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 after high school graduation. During his four years in the Navy, he served as a Dental Assistant and traveled to California and the Pacific. He then joined the U.S. Air Force as a Dental Technician and was stationed in Washington, DC, where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Margaret Ann Lancaster. In the fall of 1959, the couple was transferred to Ankara, Turkey after the birth of their first daughter, Pamela Susan. In 1961, a second daughter, Stephanie Ellen, was born, and, in 1962, the family transferred to Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, where they spent eight wonderful years. Steve was then called to duty in Ubon, Thailand, where he was a Dental Clinic Supervisor. He returned to the U.S. in the early 70s and was briefly assigned to Kessler AFB before retiring with 20 years of military service. The Bishop family returned to Oxon Hill, Maryland, where Steve worked for several private industry companies before returning to work as a Dental Technician civilian at Bolling AFB. He retired for a second time in 1986 and enjoyed being a member of several service clubs, including the Masons and the Elks. Steve also enjoyed golf, cooking, and socializing with his dear friends. In his later years, he became ill, and in 2011, was admitted into the Charlotte Hall Veterans’ Home, where he was doted on by many caring staff members. He is survived by his wife, his two daughters, two son-in-laws, Anthony Gagliardi and John McFadden, and three grandsons, Stephen Gagliardi, and Curtis and Taylor McFadden. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Friday, 4 April. The viewing will be held at 1000, followed by a service at 1100 at the Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road Oxon Hill, Md. 20745. He will be interred at the Maryland Veterans’ Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland following the service at 1pm.
