teve Katcheves, 69, a resident of Annapolis, MD for 54 years, died suddenly of natural causes on December 29, 2009 at Prince George's County Hospital Center.
Steve was born Sotirios Katcheves in Trikala, Greece on April 20, 1940, to Vasilios and Athena Katcheves. His father died at an early age and Steve emigrated with his mother to Annapolis when he was 15 years old. Steve graduated from Annapolis High School, and then served in the United States Army, where he later served as a reservist. Steve retired from the United States Postal Service in 1999. He enjoyed his years of retirement, spending more time with his family and, in particular, playing with his grandchildren.
He was an active member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis. He enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved dearly, volunteering with his church, gardening, soccer, and the Baltimore Ravens. He was well known by many for his outgoing, friendly and generous personality. He was a devoted husband and proud father. He was greatly loved by his family and was a friend to all.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Efthemia, who died in childhood.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Stella, whom he married in 1965; his children, Bill and Alexander Katcheves, both of Annapolis, MD and Athena Alexandrides of Davidsonville, MD; his daughter-in law, Tina Katcheves; his son-in-law Gregory Alexandrides. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sofie, Peter and Katie.
Friends are invited to Steve's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment St. Demetrios Greek Cemetery.
